Federal prosecutors say a Utah man has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for traveling to Idaho to engage in sexual conduct with a young girl he met online.

U.S. District Judge Edward Lodge sentenced 21-year-old Bo B. Burdick on Monday and ordered him to pay more than $21,000 in restitution.

<div class=”p402_hide”>Burdick, of Tremonton, Utah, pleaded guilty to the charge last year after prosecutors said he traveled to Idaho four separate times to sexually abuse a 13-year-old girl he’d met through Facebook. Investigators said Burdick told them that he had sexual encounters with 11 underage girls in Utah and Idaho, including four who were under the age of 16.</div>

U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson said the sentence shows that people who sexually exploit children will be significantly punished.
