Some holiday spirit lives on beyond the holidays at the David and Tina Ernstrom home in Cove with their light show synchronized to music. From Thanksgiving until New Year’s Day it was a Christmas light show.

A light show with non-Christmas music will continue until about the end of January.

“We started this back in 2007 for a couple of years when we lived in Logan,” said Tina Ernstrom. “Then we took a few years off while we built a house in Cove; now we’re back at it.

“We live on a dirt road, not conducive to a lot of traffic, but we have noticed four or five cars a night drive by to take a look. It’s not easy to see from the highway.”

The Ernstroms live at 2307 East Maple Leaf Drive in Cove. She estimates creating the display takes 30-to-40 hours per song to get the lighting and the songs timed properly. That doesn’t include another 40-to-50 hours hanging lights.

The Ernstroms also put together an “ice thing” that is about 25-feet tall, with a sprinkler on a truss. They also made a one-third scale rendition of the famous “Hampton Court” maze in the snow. It covers over 4,000 square feet with almost a quarter mile in pathways.

Tina Ernstrom said dismantling the display will depend on the weather.

“The plan was to end it at the end of January. But let’s be honest, there is two feet of snow out there and we’re not going to be taking the lights any time soon.”

The Ernstroms use over 30,000 lights and broadcast their synchronized show on 99.3 FM so people can watch the show from their cars.
