HYRUM— The Sky View volleyball continued its dominance Wednesday night by easily defeating rival Mountain Crest in three sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-13). The Bobcats won their 20th game in a row to cap off a perfect region season.

“We got beat pretty badly tonight and didn’t play very well,” MC head coach Lori Karaghouli said. “We didn’t execute our plays and missed lots of serves. Playing a team as a good as Sky View, you have to come in and capitalize and we just didn’t do that tonight.”

Early on, Mountain Crest – the No. 2 team in Region 5 – looked like it might give Sky View a battle, but midway through the first set the Bobcats took over. Led by Maddie Day, SV eventually pulled ahead 18-13, and it was a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.

Mountain Crest got its usual production from Katie Harvey who ended with five kills and three blocks. Milanna Barnes had five kills and three aces, and Terra Amberson and Bailey Willden both had three kills apiece for the Mustangs on Senior Night.

Following the first set, it was all Sky View for the final two sets as the Bobcats were led by Sammy Cox, Taylor Durea, and Day. Cox led Sky View with 15 digs, and was also impressive passing the ball. Durea finished with 13 digs and a team-high 10 kills.

“The underlying factor tonight was that we lacked confidence,” Karaghouli continued. “I told the girls before the game that I believe that we could win and I still do believe in them that we can win. We just have to regroup before state and get a fresh start.”

The sweep of the Mustangs moved Sky View to 10-0 in region action, with the Bobcats winning 30 of 31 sets during that stretch. With the No. 1 seed in region, Sky View will face the No. 4 seed from Region 8 – currently Springville – in the first round of the state tournament on Friday, Nov. 2, at 3:30 p.m. Ironically, Springville is the only team to have defeated the Bobcats (24-1, 10-0) this season.

Mountain Crest will also play at 3:30 that Friday as the Mustangs will face the No. 3 team from Region 8 – currently Timpview.
