Improved roundabout approved at 500 North 200 East in Logan

None of the opponents were happy Tuesday night when Logan City Council members gave an okay for a roundabout at the intersection of 500 North and 200 East. But those opponents, including Neighborhood Council Chair Marilyn Griffin, acknowledged that Public Works Director Mark Nielson has done a good job in coming up with improvements that will increase safety in what they feel is a dangerous situation.

Those improvements include having a single-lane roundabout, rapid response flashing beacon lights that are pedestrian activated and have sounds to assist the blind, highlighted crosswalks and textured pavement and coloring to make them very visible.

Nielson said more may be done later.

“This is a new thing and there will be some requirements to help people understand how it works, how to use it, crossing guards initially to help kids understand how this works,” Nielson said. “Whether that stays permanently or not is another question. But I think there are a lot of things that will be done initially to make this a success and get everybody acquainted with how this works.”

Nielson expressed appreciation to all the residents who have expressed interest and who have helped come up with recommended improvements.
