Smithfield man air-lifted after Main Street crash

A 38-year old Smithfield man is in serious condition at University of Utah Hospital after a car crash Thursday afternoon on Smithfield’s Main Street.

Jamey Drysdale was traveling northbound in his car at about 4:30 p.m., as was 26-year old Bryce Buchanan, in his GMC pickup truck. Smithfield Police Chief John McCoy says Drysdale attempted a lane change near 200 North Main and collided with Buchanan’s truck. McCoy says Drysdale was seriously injured and eventually air-lifted to Salt Lake Thursday night.

Buchanan was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and McCoy reports he’s in good spirits. McCoy says investigation into the accident is still ongoing, but initial reports are that neither drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Chief McCoy says it’s amazing that no other vehicles were involved, considering the amount of traffic on the road at that time of day. Northbound traffic was detoured off Main Street for a little more than an hour while the accident was cleaned up.
