It has been 20 years since the historic old building opened its doors as the Whittier Community Center and the center is celebrating its 20th anniversary Saturday. Director Jon Alfred is inviting everyone to the event and it will also be a day to celebrate the third anniversary of Adventure Playground which was built by volunteers.
Alfred says there are a lot of great tenants, including the always-interesting Antics Comedy Group.
“They are college students,” Alfred says of the comedy group. “They are also affiliated with USU Improv. They do a family-friendly improv every Friday night. The tickets are really cheap to come in.”
Alfred says that the Antics will be performing Saturday along with all the other organizations that use the Whittier throughout the year.
“I’m really excited because at this event, from 7 to 9, we are putting on a showcase where the best and brightest of our tenants will show off what they can do,” he continues. “The tenant workshop from 2 to 5 lets everyone come in and play and see what they do. But our best and brightest will be putting on a show from 7 until 9.”
On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Monday, Alfred said activities would be going on all day including a $5 dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information about the center or the activities being held Saturday, September 15, go to whittiercenter.org.
