Road work to begin in Providence Canyon

The Forest Service has received the Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads (ERFO) funding and the repair work will start the week of September 10. Therefore, the Providence Canyon Road will be closed to all uses starting Monday, September 10 through the early part of November.

The purpose for the closure is to provide for public safety while construction curfews and equipment are repairing the Providence Canyon Road. Forest Service spokeswoman Kathy Jo Pollock says Providence Canyon Road was damaged due to flooding in the spring of 2011 and has been closed only to motorized use since July 1, 2011 which will remain in effect until Monday, September 10.

The closure goes along Providence Canyon Road including 500 feet on either side of the road (including the Providence Trail) from the barriers located about 0.4 miles from the forest boundary. The closure of Providence Canyon Road continues approximately two miles east to the junction with the Providence Canyon 4×4 Road.
