More than 30 dirty obstacles highlight Man vs Mud

It’s been voted the best mud run in Utah and the second annual Man vs Mud 5K is being held Friday and Saturday at the American West Heritage Center.

Dave Knight, one of the race directors, said this year’s course is even bigger and better than last year and planners have spent a lot of time this summer bringing in mud from construction sites. There are more than 30 dirty obstacles.

“We’ve got giant slides, 200 feet long that finish out in mud pits or into lanes,” Knight says. “We have cargo nets that they can scale up and down. We’ve got a trench that has been dug out that they go through.”

Knight says the mud run is for more than just the runners.

“We have a shooting range that spectators can basically line up along the side. We have squirt guns and water cannons for them that they can squirt the runners as they go by,” he explains. “We try to involve them…in the run as the participants are running through.”

Besides the up and down obstacles, the course also features an obstacle that looks like it belongs in a popular reality TV show.

“We have a floating bridge that is basically Wipe Out meets mud.”

Knight says it’s an event for the whole family and there are registration options for everyone. For more information call (435) 890-0081 or visit manvsmud.com. He says the fun community event will benefit the American West Heritage Center.
