Lemon reminds Logan residents that canal serves many

A joint meeting of the Logan Municipal Council and the Cache County Council will be held Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Cache County Council chambers in the Historic Cache County Courthouse to discuss the canal rebuild design. The design has been criticized by those living in the Lundstrom Park area of Logan.

Cache County is managing the $25 million canal project and County Executive Lynn Lemon invites everyone interested to attend the meeting, including those from the Lundstrom Park neighborhood.

“You shouldn’t just listen to those concerns, certainly we want to try to address those concerns, but we want to remember that we’re doing this for the good of a lot of different users,” Lemon says. “A lot of municipalities rely on this a lot for their culinary water and a lot of irrigators rely on it for their irrigating needs.”

Lemon says Logan is part of the project because the city depends on the canal project for its culinary water needs. He says the council agenda has allowed for a 45-minute discussion on the canal issue. Canal engineers will be on hand to explain various aspects surrounding the multi-million dollar project.

The engineers had been scheduled to seek a permit from the Logan Planning Commission last Thursday but the request was delayed because of so many citizen concerns.
