Early defensive struggles dooms MC girls at Fremont

OGDEN– The Mountain Crest girl’s soccer lost struggled early on defense and couldn’t get anything going on offense, as the Mustangs fell to Fremont Thursday, 3-0.

MC head coach Dennis Giles said the game was over after about 10 minutes into the first half, as the Silverwolves scored all three of their goals. Mariah Elmer scored twice for the Silver Wolves, and Mikayla Elmer added the final goal.

Giles said although his team’s defense picked up in the second half and prevented the Silverwolves from scoring again, the Mustangs were never able to generate anything on offense.

“We had some chances, we had some kicks,” Giles said. “We’re still not patient enough. We’re not kicking enough out too far.”

The Mustangs, with three wins and three losses of pre-season play under their belt, play their first region game against Roy Tuesday. Giles said as his team heads into the season, they will continue to work on putting a complete game together. With a younger team this year, he will keep moving positions around and experimenting to build a solid team.

“We just got to keep positive and keep going,” Giles said.
