Cache aging study defunded

The National Institutes of Health has declined to continue funding the Cache County Study on Memory, Health and Aging in spite of the fact that $25 million has been invested over the last 17 years.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Utah State University researchers have been following Cache County’s elderly population as part of a data-gathering effort aimed at probing cognitive health and aging. Ron Munger, professor of nutrition and director of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies at USU, says researchers remain optimistic that the data gathered will continue to yield important findings that cold pinpoint risk factors for Alzheimers disease.
