Utah political activist to stand trial or sexual assault

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A conservative political activist has been ordered to stand trial after a two-day preliminary hearing in which four women testified the 37-year-old Orem man sexually assaulted them on dates.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports a 3rd District Court judge has ordered Gregory Peterson to appear Aug. 24 to enter pleas to 25 charges of assault, rape and kidnapping. The judge also increased Peterson’s bail Wednesday to $2 million from $750,000.

The Tribune reports the women testified they initially met Peterson because he was a member of the Mormon church and all said he was sexually aggressive almost as soon as they met.

Testimony from Peterson’s mother indicated he brought one woman to her home and that she seemed happy.

He is accused of assaulting the women at his cabin.
