Christmas is still months away but unless the Cache County Sub for Santa program gets some help from the community hundreds of children could be going without a Christmas this year. Like other non-profit organizations Sub for Santa has been struggling financially during the recent recession.
Board president-elect and incoming director Janice Skousen says local residents have been great to sponsor the families in need of help and this past year about 1300 children had Christmas because of Sub for Santa.
“Last year’s donations make it for this year’s program,” Skousen said. “As soon as Christmas is over we begin the next year. So we were able to pay our bills, take care of the families that needed to be taken care of through the generous donations of the community and then we use the residual donations the next year. We have fallen bellow the ability to take care of ourselves this year.”
On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Monday, Skousen said anyone willing to make a donation, sponsor a fundraiser or help in any other way is asked to contact Cache County Sub for Santa at P.O. Box 4603.
