LOGAN—There is still no solution to the future of the financially plagued Willow Park Zoo.
However, Logan Parks and Recreation Director Russ Akina told the city council Tuesday night that a nonprofit organization is still interested in taking over the Zoo. Akina said talks are continuing between Zoo Board Chairman Troy Christensen and leaders of the organization whose name has not yet been disclosed.
“They felt that there were some things that match up in terms of both missions, but they wanted the opportunity to discuss it with their full board next week,” Akina said. “So, we’ve asked Troy to – when that meeting has concluded – to bring us up to speed. We certainly would do likewise with the mayor and the council.”
Meanwhile Akina said a big fundraiser for the Willow Park Zoo is planned for July 31.
