U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch is accusing conservative Super PACs of spreading falsehoods about him. The six-term senator told KVNU’s Harry Caines that Freedom Works and Super PACs are making untrue claims, such as that Hatch is the third-biggest earmarker in Congress.
“They are two very radical libertarians who could care less about the Republican party and who are living as fat cats back there in Washington,” Hatch said. “You know I could live with it if they told the truth.
“They spent about a million dollars against me and my opponent is reiterating their falsehoods. I think that’s beneath him. I think he’s basically a good person and he shouldn’t be doing that.”
Hatch, who was unable to get enough votes at the state Republican convention to avoid a primary race, says he intends to defeat Liljenquist. He says he also plans to be chairman of a Republican-controlled Senate Finance Committee after he is elected. Early voting started on Tuesday.
