Everyone invited to Bike with Brent

Everyone is invited to participate in the second annual “Bike with Brent” event with registration starting Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Willow Park in Logan. The event itself begins at 10:30. The event is hosted by the Cache Employment and Training Center and Executive Director Kaylyn Beecher says it was so exciting last year that businesses have been anxious to help sponsor this year’s ride.

“Bike with Brent” is all about Brent Carpenter, a local celebrity who rides his bike all over Cache Valley making friends as he waves and honks his horn. Beecher says you might call Brent a star celebrity and one of CETC’s real success stories.

“We were able to help him find a job at the university,” Beecher explained. “He worked up there for years and years and just retired a couple of years ago but he still enjoys going up there and volunteering.

“We have many other success stories through the years. We have placed hundreds of people on jobs and the community has recognized that they’re valuable employees.”

You might remember that Brent Carpenter carried the torch up to Utah State University as part of the 2002 Winter Olympics. On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Tuesday, Beecher said people can join Brent at the Friday event by riding their bikes, walking or using a wheelchair or stroller. People can also be cheerleaders from the sidelines.

The cost is $10 per entry and the money will go to help support people with disabilities.
