Eric Collins, a retired Logan City police captain, is running for a seat on the Cache County Council trying to unseat incumbent Cory Yeates. Yeates represents Logan district 4. Collins said county employees should be valued and something can be done about the apparent wage disparity between some city and county jobs. “I have a lot of friends who work for the sheriff’s office, including Sheriff Nelson, and I’ve spent time talking to him. It is frustrating for some of their employees right now with the current wage situation, and I think there are some solutions that we can work toward as a county council that would be something I would be in favor of looking into,” Collins said. The Recreation, Arts, Park and Zoo (RAPZ) tax will have another supporter on the council if Collins is elected. “I think it’s a great thing. The restaurant tax, it’s a fair tax that reaches across all of our citizens and visitors alike that come to our valley and it supports community-wide functions for the most part,” he said. Yeates and Collins – both Republicans – are seeking the council seat along with Democrat Barry Franklin.
