La Tienda already cashing in on Mega Millions jackpot

As of Thursday, the Mega Millions jackpot is up to $540 million across the nation and is likely to climb even higher. Forty-two states participate in this lottery and where lottery tickets are being sold business is booming, including in Cache Valley. K.C. Spackman, co-owner/manager of La Tienda in Franklin, ID says that ever since Monday they have had four to five lines of people at each cash register with about 20 people lined up for tickets. Spackman says when the lottery gets high it is always good for business at his convenience store and restaurant. Lottery tickets for the Mega Millions jackpot are one dollar each. “I would say people are coming in and buying on average about 20 tickets,” Spackman says. “I predict (on Friday) that it will probably be 50 to 100.” Stores make a small profit on each ticket and can make an additional profit if the winning ticket is purchased at their location. Spackman says La Tienda stands to make an additional $70,000 if the winning ticket is purchased from his store. Spackman is trying to encourage everybody to win that incredible fortune. “You got to have that ticket to win so I encourage everybody to come in and buy at least one ticket.” The lucky numbers for the jackpot will be drawn at 8 p.m. on Friday.
