It took the coordination and resources of seven Cache Valley fire departments to contain and knock down a rapidly spreading brush fire in Wellsville on Saturday. Crews responded to the area just south of Pisgah Road just before 1 p.m. An official statement from the Wellsville fire department described two difficult challenges the crews faced in fighting the fire; first, the changing winds, and second, the wet ground which caused the brush trucks to get stuck. Despite the challenges the fire was contained to 50 acres. The cause of the fire has been determined as an illegal burn that the Land Agent lost control of, due to heavy fuel and winds. Jason Winn, Cache County Fire Marshal, urges everyone to take necessary precautions during the open burn season this year, due to the heavy vegetation growth the valley experienced last summer.
