LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men’s basketball will host Western Athletic Conference foe Idaho Saturday at 7 p.m., in the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) it was officially announced Thursday morning.
Tickets for the second round of theCollegeInsider.com Tournament are $17 for adults and $5 for USU students with a valid student ID, while current Jr. Aggie members will receive free admission with an adult ticket. Fans can purchase tickets in person inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum at the USU Ticket Office, or over the phone by call 1-888-USTATE-1. Tickets are also available on-line 24 hours a day at UtahStateAggies.com.
Utah State is 18-15 on the season after posting a 75-69 home win against CSU Bakersfield (16-15) on Wednesday in the opening round of the CIT to notch its first postseason win since a 2011 NCAA Tournament victory against Ohio State. Overall, Utah State has won six of its last nine games heading into its second round CIT game against Idaho.
Idaho is 19-13 overall after defeating UC Santa Barbara 86-83 at home Wednesday night in another opening round CITgame. The Vandals, who have won eight of their last 10 games, are 7-7 on the road and 8-9 away from home this year.
All-time, Utah State is 34-14 against Idaho including a 16-1 home record. The two teams split its season series this year as the Vandals won in Moscow, 57-54, while the Aggies won in Logan in its regular season home finale, 67-50, as sophomore guard Preston Medlin scored a career-high 32 points in the game.
Utah State is led by Medlin who is averaging 16.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists, while shooting 49.6 percent from the field, 42.6 percent from three-point range and 78.8 percent at the free throw line. Utah State has two other players scoring in double-figures as senior guard Brockeith Pane is averaging 12.5 points and 3.9 assists, while juniorforward Kyisean Reed is averaging 9.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. Senior forward Morgan Grim is averaging 8.8 points and a team-best 5.9 rebounds on the season. As a team, Utah State is averaging 67.5 points and shooting 47.3 percent from the field, 36.3 percent from three-point range and 70.4 percent at the free throw line. Defensively, USU is allowing 64.4 points and its opponents are shooting 41.8 percent from the field, 32.8 percent from three-point range and 66.4 percent at the free throw line.
Idaho is led by senior guard DeremyGeiger who is averaging 13.2 points, while shooting 46.4 percent from the field, 44.1 percent from three-point range and 77.8 percent at the free throw line. Junior center Kyle Barone is averaging 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds, and sophomore forward Stephen Madison is averaging 12.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. As a team, Idaho is averaging 70.1 points and shooting 47.9 percent from the field, 39.4 percent from three-point range and 67.3 percent at the freethrow line. Defensively, UI is allowing 67.6 points and its opponents are shooting 42.7 percent from the field, 34.8 percent from three-point range and 67.4 percent at the free throw line.
The fourth annual CIT will once again use the old NIT model in which matchups in future rounds are determined by the results of the previous round and as such there is no formal bracket for the tournament.
