SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials say Utah will get another $3 million in federal funds through a program that aims to turn around the lowest-achieving schools in the country. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the grant Thursday. It comes from the Education Department’s School Improvement Grants program, also known as SIG. The federal education agency is distributing $535 million to states as part of the fiscal year 2011 budget. About 1,200 schools nationwide participate in SIG. Utah has received $23.1 million since the SIG program was redesigned in 2009.
