The Hyrum Library is hosting its annual Book and Bake Sale this weekend, with plenty of books and treats to go around.”It’s like a big garage sale for the library,” said event coordinator Emily Coltrin. The sale takes place 10 a.m. To 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, and again from 10 a.m. To 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Hyrum Library. Books will be sold in the library’s hallway, and the baked goods can be found in the library’s cafe. Most books cost between 50 cents and a dollar, but there are some newer books that cost more. There will also be a bin of free books for guests to take. Two quilts will be raffled at the sale. Librarian Katie Johnson recently had a kidney transplant, and the raffle money will help pay her medical bills. Visit the National Foundation for Transplants

for information about Johnson and a link to make taxable donations. The library receives book donations all throughout the year. Staff members decide if the book would be useful to their collection. Books that don’t have a place in the collection are saved to be sold at this annual event. Sweets to be sold are being donated by library staff and members of the community. While there is a sign-up sheet at the library, those who haven’t signed up and want to contribute can still drop off their baked goods during the sale Friday or Saturday. All money raised from books and baked goods will be used to purchase new materials for the library. – rachel@cvdaily.com
