New group hopes to educate voting public about conservative candidates

A representative of the Cache Valley Citizens Forum says the purpose of the new conservative group is to help educate the public and give local residents a chance to meet and compare candidates running for office this year. Michelle Alder says the group has already heard from some candidates for governor and U.S. Senator and others will be speaking at future forums. On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Friday, Alder said she has been favorably impressed with former State Senator Dan Liljenquist who recently resigned in order to challenge fellow Republican U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch.”I consider him like a (Sen.) Rand Paul, a new rising star in the Republican Party,” Alder explained. “It would be shame if we didn’t give him consideration.”Alder said that Liljenquist is a rising star with ideas and experience that is needed in Washington, DC.”The seniority that Senator Hatch has has some value,” she continued, “but I would weigh the expertise that Dan Liljenquist has against that and the new fresh look and leadership he would bring to Washington.” Alder says she is not overly impressed with the Republicans running for president but she will support any of the nominees to help get rid of Barack Obama.
