Competitive jump rope team hosting workshop and exhibition

Cache Valley’s Just Jumpin’ jump rope team is hosting a jump rope workshop/fundraiser/exhibition Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Smithfield Rec Center. “It is an annual event,” said Patrice Winn, the team’s head coach. “We do this to raise money to take our kids to the nationals. This year it is in Long Beach, California. It also helps them get to regionals so they can become better jumpers.” Just Jumpin’ is the only competitive jump rope team in Utah. “I am a PE teacher and I started having kids ask me if they could have a team. Then, I heard I could get free ropes if we did jump roping with the American Heart Association. It’s just grown from there.” There are nine events at the national meet and everyone on the Just Jumpin’ team has placed in something. The Feb. 4 event, including all that happens that day, is called “The Jolt”. “We call it that because it’s going to jolt you out of your seat,” said Winn. “We teach kids all year long, from kindergarten all the way to college. We even have parents taking our classes. We have taught thousands of children and adults to jump rope.” The schedule includes a workshop (1-4 p.m.) followed by a silent auction (5:30 p.m.) then the jump rope exhibition at 6:30 p.m. featuring USA Jump Rope All Stars Jeremy Lindstrom, Vincent Martis and L.J. LaVecchia. Lindstrom was part of the Summerwind Skippers on the most recent season of America’s Got Talent. The Just Jumpin’ team performs frequently at regional sporting events including Aggie men’s basketball last November and at Utah last weekend and BYU this weekend.
