Magic and music combine for Matinee: Enchantee

It’s been a year now since the Hatch Academy of Magic and Music opened in Logan’s historic Thatcher-Young Mansion. Richard Hatch, who calls himself a deceptionist, says he and his wife Rosemary, an accomplished violinist, and their son Jonathan, a talented pianist, were uncertain how they would be received in Cache Valley. He says the response has been great and the occasional performances they offer in the small downstairs gallery space has been terrific.Hatch says that space will be utilized on Saturday, January 28 when the Hatch family performs one of their “Matinee: Enchantee” programs.”The ensemble aspect of it is quite unusual,” Hatch explains. “I’m a magician, not a musician. During the ensemble pieces all of us are performing simultaneously with the magic choreographed, if you will, to the music. “That’s quite unusual. There are are also solo performances where there are musical solos and there are magical solos and that’s about half of the performance but the other half are the ensemble pieces where all of us are performing simultaneously.”The performance starts at 2 p.m. and tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children under 12. Hatch says it’s important to get tickets early because only 56 seats are available and this performance is part of the weekend Winterfest activities taking place throughout Logan.
