Flood advisory issued for Cache County through Sunday

The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a flood advisory for minor flooding of poor drainage areas in western Cache County. The advisory is in effect until 4:15 p.m. Sunday. Due to a combination of frozen soils, saturated ground and rainfall areas of Cache Valley are at risk for sheet flooding. Rainfall amounts of around an inch are expected in the Cache Valley in the early morning hours of Saturday through Sunday morning. Flood damage is anticipated to affect homes, fields and area roads adjacent to steeper slopes. The weather service warns that most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the road. When encountering flooded roads, the weather service warns, make the smart choice, turn around, don’t drown.
