Funding growth in education a high priority for Butterfield

Utah lawmakers will have more money to work with in the 2012 session of the Utah legislature according to the budget released by Governor Gary Herbert several weeks ago. State Representative David Butterfield, R-District 4, says he wants to make sure the structural imbalance is closed so that ongoing money is going for ongoing programs. Another priority, he says, is funding the growth in education.”Increasing the WPU,” Butterfield says, “which would give additional money to K-12. I think our universities have taken about a 20 percent reduction in funds over the last three years or so. “I’d like to be able to see some additional moneys to our universities for select and targeted initiatives.”On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Tuesday, Butterfield said he is excited about getting involved in his second legislative session.
