<strong>Mountain Crest strikes first in valley rivalry, beating Logan 69-56</strong>
Mountain Crest (7-4, 1-0) came to Logan (9-2, 0-1) prepared to start region play Friday night. The valley rivalry and build up to the game packed the gym and provided an electric atmosphere. But it was all Mountain Crest with four players in double digits (Pututau-18, Crosbie-17, Peterson-12, Webb-12) and lighting it up from three. It was Logan’s first loss since December 2. The Mustangs had been searching for other players to step up their game and they did Friday night with MC winning 69 to 56. MC will host Roy next Friday in Hyrum. Logan, meanwhile, hits the road for a match-up against 3A Morgan High School on Tuesday.-Jason Laursen
<strong>Gritty win for Bears 55-50 over Stansbury</strong>
Stansbury and Bear River both needed this game to keep pace. Bear River made just enough plays to allow the Bear fans to leave happy in a gritty 55-50 win. Stansbury had a 41-40 lead late in the fourth when the Bears went on a 9-0 run that was highlighted by Taylor Ramsdale who hit back to back threes to give the Bears a 49-40 lead.Stansbury would keep it close but Bear River hit free throws in the closing moments to seal their second region win of the year. MVP for the Bears went to Kyle Zundel who scored 16 points, hitting all six freebies and pulled down six boards. The Bears now look to their next region tilt at Tooele Wednesday at 7 p.m. -Ajay Salveson
<strong>Oliverson leads Sky View past Roy in region opener 50-44</strong>
Casey Oliverson lead all scorers with 16 points Friday night in Roy as Sky View opened region play on the road defeating the Royals 50-44. The Bobcats were able to withstand a barrage of three-pointers from Roy. Ty Nielsen was the only other Sky View player in double figures with 11 points. Sky View now turns its attention to Murray who it hosts on Wednesday, January 18th.
