A convenience store employee was allegedly approached by two armed males Tuesday night in Logan. In a prepared statement, Logan Police officers were dispatched to 1200 East 1400 North, the location of Kelly’s Convenience Store, commonly referred to as Foothill Mart. The victim said he was locking up the business at approximately 10:30 p.m. when the two suspects produced firearms and demanded the he lay on the ground. They demanded money, but the clerk had already locked the building and had no money. The suspects took the victim’s car keys and fled the scene in what was later learned to be a stolen vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the North Park Police Department spotted the vehicle and a brief chase ensued. The statement says the driver turned the vehicle’s lights off and soon lost control, crashing into a retaining wall. The suspects then fled on foot. Police activated a localized reverse 911 call to residents in the area of the crash to advise them of the potential problem. Logan City Police, North Park Police and Cache County Sheriff’s officers set up a parameter in the area and began tracking the suspects. After several hours police found the suspects, two juveniles from Cache Valley, and one adult, not from the area, who was identified as Tevita Mahunga. As part of the investigation, police discovered the get away vehicle was stolen from a North Logan residence earlier in the evening. One of the firearms used in the robbery was also stolen from a local area business burglary. The investigation is ongoing, and charges will be filed.
