LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Preston Medlin scored 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting and had a team-high six assists to lead Utah State past Utah Valley 63-54 Tuesday night.Kyisean Reed also scored 11 and Danny Berger added 10 points for the Aggies (4-4)The Wolverines (5-5) were led by Isiah Williams with 16 points on 5-of-15 shooting. Kevin Woods scored a season-high 10 points.The Aggies led by as many as 12 early in the second half before Utah Valley came within 45-42 on consecutive layups by Geddes Robinson with 11:26 to play. With Williams on the bench, USU employed a zone which slowed the Wolverines and helped the Aggies add to their lead. Berger scored twice in a one-minute stretch to put the game out of reach.Utah State hit four free throws in the last minute to clinch the win.For the first time in three games, Utah State ball-handlers were credited with more assists than turnovers, and the Aggies outrebounded UVU 38-32.The Wolverines missed their first nine field-goal attempts as USU burst out to a 9-1 lead, eventually leading by as many as 15 points. Utah Valley ended the half on a 9-3 run, though, and trailed 36-27 at halftime.With Aggies leading scorer Brady Jardine possibly out for the season with a foot injury, Utah State used its seventh different starting lineup. Freshman Jordan Stone started his first game as an Aggie, picked up three first-half fouls, and finished with two points and a team-high eight rebounds.Both teams shot 5 of 11 from 3-point range, Medlin hitting two for the Aggies.Utah State has won 26 straight games at home against in-state competition. Coming into Tuesday’s game, Utah State had lost back-to-back games for the first time since the 2009-10 season – losing to Denver at home and Pacific on the road.
