As director of the Cache Community Food Pantry Matt Whittaker is pleased the local credit unions are sponsoring a food drive for the pantry. With the poor economy there is more need than there has been before. Right now, Whittaker says he is really putting out an appeal for something special: turkeys. “Every year for Thanksgiving, and we try to do it again for Christmas, we try to put together a traditional Thanksgiving meal so that our families can come there,” Whittaker said. “They can get a turkey, they can get some cranberry sauce, all the fixings for a Thanksgiving dinner and take it home and have a nice dinner with their families. We’re a little nervous right now. This morning I asked my warehouse man how many turkeys we have and he said we have four.” Whittaker says he will need at least 200 turkeys if the families in need are going to have one for Thanksgiving. Then, he says another appeal will be going out for Christmas. Whittaker says it is not unusual to be worrying this time of year but so far Cache Valley people and businesses have come to the rescue. He is hoping that will happen again.
