Employees growing facial hair to help young boy

This month a Cache Valley company is rallying its employees and anyone else willing to help an eight-year old valley boy with congenital heart disease whose family is facing mounting medical bills. Halen Toone underwent the first of eight heart surgeries the day after his birth and was given a one percent chance of survival. Halen’s single father, Doug, travels to Salt Lake City for each of his son’s surgeries and works three jobs to support Halen and his three siblings. New Dawn Technologies’ unique fundraising event is underway through the end of November. “We’re calling it the ‘Novem-Beard’ fundraiser and our employees have decided to grow out their facial hair for the month of November,” said Taylor, the company’s events coordinator. “We’re getting pledges from local businesses and individuals to help sponsor our beard growing and raise money for Halen and his family.” Taylor said they are asking for a donation of at least $1 for each quarter of an inch that the company grows as a whole. “We will measure the total length of our beards at the end of the month and we’re taking pictures of the progression of growth throughout the month and putting them on our website so anyone can follow along.” He said a tally at the end of the month would determine the total amount raised with all of it donated to the Halen Toone Benefit Fund. “Our goal is $5000 for the month,” said Taylor. “We have options for one time donations if you are comfortable doing that. We’re reaching out to the community for help. You don’t have to be one of our employees to make a donation.” Taylor said anyone interested can go to links at their website www.newdawn.com/event/novembeard.
