Cache County Sheriff Lynn Nelson says he has a lot to be proud of. The Cache County Sheriffs Office is the only agency in the state that has accreditation and the Cache County jail is the only one in the state with that achievement.Nelson says he has a lot of great employees but his problem is keeping employees when their salaries are about 20 percent less than their counterparts in the state. The sheriff is hoping there will be a pay hike for the sheriffs office in Cache County’s 2012 budget. On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Wednesday, Nelson said he has been asking for an additional investigator for the last six years.”Our investigation division has maintained the same number of investigators for the past 10 or 15 years,” Nelson said. “They are the ones who handle the most serious crimes. “The case load for them, you’d think handling 10 or 20 cases would be an armful, they would welcome to go back to that level.”Nelson says he’s been having to push from 30 to 40 cases on each investigator. The new county budget will be adopted later this month.
