Former Logan Mayor Doug Thompson, who is now running for a seat on the Logan municipal council, says one of the major problems the city needs to deal with is communications. And Thompson says he has proven his communications skills in his jobs as mayor, at Logan Regional Hospital and with the Cache Chamber of Commerce. There is now a lot of controversy where the neighborhood is upset about a proposed high rise apartment complex in the 1000 North 600 East area. Unfortunately, he says the property was rezoned from single family to the highest density without neighborhood input. “The first thing I would do, if elected, is start looking how we could amend the land development code and other public notice processes so that the neighbors are going to find out about these kinds of things before it’s too late,” Thompson said. “If they like it that’s fine, if they don’t like it then they’ll have a chance to say something about it. “In this case the neighbors didn’t know about it, the neighborhood council chair didn’t know about it and I think that’s really a travesty.” On KVNU’s Crosstalk show, Thompson said the project was planned with good intentions but it was in need of neighborhood input from the very beginning.
