Gov. Herbert scheduled for monthly news conference, state-wide broadcast

Gov. Gary Herbert is scheduled to meet with reporters during his monthly news conference. Herbert will also participate in a statewide radio broadcast Thursday evening at 6 p.m. The Let Me Speak to the Governor broadcast is sponsored by the Utah Broadcasters Association and will be carried by KVNU 610 AM/102.1 FM in Logan. Listeners may call in to ask the governor a question during the hour-long broadcast. Herbert will likely discuss an audit of the state’s liquor agency released last week, among other topics during Thursday’s meeting with reporters. The Legislative Auditor’s Office says Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control employees have been manipulating bids for more than two decades and splitting contracts to skirt state procurement rules. Auditors also found more than $700,000 in potential cost savings that would not require staff cuts or liquor store closures. Herbert says ways to change the management structure of the agency are being explored. Hebert ordered the audit after discovering the agency had ongoing contracts with a maintenance company owned by former executive director Dennis Kellen’s son. Kellen resigned in August after the conflict was made public.
