A former TIME magazine “Person of the Year” will be featured at an upcoming Partners in Business conference at Utah State University. Cynthia Cooper, who investigated and exposed a $3.8 billion accounting fraud at WorldCom, will give the opening address at the 35th annual Accounting Conference on Thursday, October 20. The event, which is sponsored by the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, will feature numerous other professionals with decades of experience in the accounting world. In 2001, Cooper was recognized by TIME magazine, along with two other whistleblowers, as a Person of the Year. The magazine said Cooper, “exploded the bubble that was WorldCom when she informed its board that the company had covered up $3.8 billion in losses through phony bookkeeping.”
