SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah education officials are unveiling a new website that will allow parents to compare the state’s public schools – and perhaps individual teachers – online.The State Office of Education says superintendents have been previewing the Public School Data Gateway site this month. It is set for a public launch in coming weeks.State Superintendent Larry Shumway told the Salt Lake Tribune it will bring a new level of transparency to schools.Parents will be able to make side-by-side comparisons of schools based on demographics, test scores and No Child Left Behind results. Individual student data will be private.Officials say they hope in the future to offer comparisons of student achievement levels tied to individual teachers. Similar moves elsewhere in the country have been criticized by teachers unions.
