Monday is Labor Day and Labor Day is also Founders Day in Wellsville, the first city to be established in Cache Valley by the early Mormon pioneers.Founders Day activities have already started, according to Colin Harrison, a member of the Wellsville City Council who also serves as celebration chairman. Harrison says the traditional Wellsville Stampede is scheduled for Friday and Saturday. There is a golf tournament and a dance on Saturday and a patriotic program Sunday in the LDS Stake Center at the corner of Main.Harrison says there will be a host of activities going on Monday beginning with a fireman’s breakfast, 5K and 10K races, a flag ceremony and a big parade at 10 a.m.Harrison says the popular sham battle will follow the parade and after that there is a dutch oven dinner served by the Mountain Crest Girls Softball team.”They’ve taken it over,” Harrison explains. “We’ve done the pit barbecue for many years but thery’re going to do the same type of a dinner but it will be Dutch Oven.”They’ll have chicken and ribs, a salad, a roll, potato, vegetable. It will be a nice one and it will be a fundraiser for them.”Harrison says the celebration continues in the afternoon with a horseshoe tournament, childrens games, music in the park, and a lot more. He invites everyone to come to Wellsville on Monday.
