BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) — Crews plan use aircraft to put out a northern Utah wildfire sparked by lightning that’s been raging in Box Elder County. High winds pushed the Maple Canyon Fire north overnight after the blaze started about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday about 20 miles north of Promontory Point. Firefighters say they were successful in keeping flames away from some structures near the Fort Ranch area. A spokesman from the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands tells the Salt Lake Tribune about 30 firefighters worked the blaze overnight and more people were expected during the day Thursday. KSL-TV reports flames crested at the Mount Tarpey ridgeline and were visible from Howell. The fire has burned more than 1,000 acres.
