Aggie Football Heats Up At Tuesday’s Practice

Aggie Fact of the Day: Utah State football’s 2011 season opener at Auburn on Saturday, Sept. 3 will be televised on ESPN2, as announced by the network Tuesday… The battle between the Aggies and Tigers will kickoff at 10 a.m. MT at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium… USU’s game against the defending national champions gives the Aggies two nationally televised games, as USU’s game at BYU on Friday, Sept. 30 will also be televised by ESPN. Aggie Tidbit of the Day: The expected heat for Auburn is nothing new for USU’s season openers, as the average temperature at kickoff of the Aggies’ last three games to open a season has been 85 degrees, as it was 84 both last season at Oklahoma as well as at Utah in 2009 and 87 at UNLV in 2008.LOGAN, Utah – With temperatures hovering in the upper 90’s beating down on and heating up the synthetic surface of Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium, Utah State football had a solid day’s practice Tuesday afternoon according to Aggie head coach Gary Andersen.USU was in full pads for the practice, which lasted just over two hours, and Andersen and his coaching staff fine-tuned things from Monday’s double-day of practice, but also worked on preparation for the season-opener at Auburn. Tuesday was the first single day of practice that was held in the afternoon, as the Aggies were in action in the mornings in the prior one-practice days. Andersen and his staff changed the schedule to go in the afternoon to get the student-athletes into their regular routines for when school starts next week and all practices will be in the afternoon.The Aggies’ season-opener on Saturday, Sept. 3 at No. 23/19 Auburn at 10 a.m. (MT), will be aired on ESPN2, which was announced Tuesday by the network.Utah State’s practice schedule has also changed, and the squad will not have a formal scrimmage on Thursday as originally scheduled. The Aggies will practice twice on Wednesday, first at 9:15 a.m. and then at 3:45 p.m. USU will have a single practice on Thursday at 2:40 p.m. On Friday, USU will practice twice, first at 9:15 a.m. and then at 3:45 p.m., in final preparation for the final scrimmage of preseason camp on Saturday. {see below for complete practice schedule, as of 12 p.m., 8/22/11}All practices of preseason camp are open to the public. Fans are encouraged to stay in the stands when the team is practicing on Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium and in the bleachers at the practice field. All open practices are subject to change.USU’s preseason concludes with a scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Noon as part of Utah State Aggie Football Family Fun Day, sponsored by Macey’s Foods. The event provides fans a chance to meet USU football players and coaches, participate in games and activities as well as purchase and pick-up season tickets. Activities sponsored by Macey’s Foods will begin on the South Concourse of Romney Stadium. Season tickets as well as two-game packages will be also available for purchase at the USU Football Family Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Romney Stadium Box Office, which is located on the South end of Romney Stadium.After its season-opener at Auburn on Saturday, Sept. 3, Utah State’s home opener is on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. (MT), taking on in-state foe Weber State, marking the first time that USU and WSU have squared off since 2001, and Utah State leads the all-time series, 11-1. The Aggie-Wildcat match-up will have special meaning for Andersen, who will be facing his mentor, Weber State head coach Ron McBride.
