OGDEN, Utah (AP) — The Davis County cities of Farmington and North Salt Lake are among five in Utah that cracked a national magazine’s list of the top 100 small towns in America.Money magazine’s list of the top 100 places to live is based on job opportunity, fiscal strength, schools, safety, health care, activities and weather. Farmington ranks 12th and North Salt Lake 23rd on Money magazine’s list of top towns with populations fewer than 50,000, the Standard-Examiner of Ogden reported.Other Utah towns making the list were North Logan at No. 63, Lindon at No. 81 and Draper at No. 85. The top city on the list was Louisville, Colo., which is 25 miles outside Denver.”We were tickled with that,” Farmington Mayor Scott Harbertson said of the national recognition. He attributed his town’s high ranking partly to its quality of life and promotion of a healthy lifestyle through development of “miles of trails.”North Salt Lake officials also were pleased with the recognition.”We’re excited to be ranked that high. We think we have a great community that deserves to be ranked that high,” North Salt Lake City Manager Barry Edwards told the Standard-Examiner.Edwards and Harbertson think the rankings will help lure businesses and companies to their towns.Davis County Commissioner Louenda Downs was not surprised by the towns’ high rankings.”We have known this all along,” Downs said. “The rest of the country is just acknowledging this.”Money magazine’s list of top small towns comes out every other odd-numbered year.
