Hiker who fell to death in Willard Canyon identified as Brigham City woman

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 19-year-old who died after falling during a hike in Willard Canyon has been identified as a Brigham City woman. KSL-TV reports that authorities have identified the woman as Laney Peacock. Box Elder County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Kevin Potter says the woman was hiking with a friend Saturday afternoon when the pair decided to climb up a sheer rock wall without the proper equipment. As the woman started to climb back down, authorities say she slipped and fell about 30 feet, hitting a rocky area, then sliding another 100 yards. Authorities say her friend went for help, but when emergency crews reached the scene, the woman was dead. A helicopter was used to hoist Peacock’s body out of the canyon.
