A rare treat is in store for those traveling to Newton Saturday. There is an opportunity for the public to visit six historic homes built in the late 1800s where the owners will tell stories about the people who built those houses and about some of their trials and tribulations. The self-guided tour is from 1 to 4 p.m. and the cost is $5 for adults while it is free for children under 12. The tour is being held as a benefit for the Newton Town Library which was established in 1999. Tickets for the tour are available at Lee’s Marketplace in Logan and Smithfield, the Newton Library, the Newton Municipal Building and the Newton Market. The tour is part of Newton’s Pioneer Day celebration which also includes a picnic in the park.
