Flammable liquid in sewer causes explosion in Hyde Park

Flammable liquid in the sewer apparently caused more than $50,000 damage at Robertson Manufacturing, a large firm located on the west side of Highway 91 in Hyde Park at 207 West 3700 North. Assistant Smithfield Fire Chief Mike Weibel says the call came in at about 6 p.m. Tuesday and units from Smithfield, Logan, North Logan and Cache County all responded. He says the flammable liquid apparently caused vapors to come down into the utility room where a pilot light caused it to explode. The explosion blew a man hole cover outside the building. Weibel says Bear River Health Department officials were at the scene monitoring the flammable liquid and flushing out the sewer. He says how the flammable liquid got into the sewer is under investigation.
