As paving begins closures ensue on Tenth West project

There have been closures, delays and sometimes frustrations for motorists as Logan’s 1000 West Reconstruction Project’s first phase has been moving forward. Vic Saunders, public involvement manager for the Utah Department of Transportation, says local residents have been patient and accommodating so far.On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Monday, Saunders said there are some closures through Wednesday while concrete paving is being done.”They will be paving on the west side of the roadway first,” Saunders explained. “The detours around that are through the 1100 South neighborhood down there, the Hyclone Road. “People going north on Tenth West are going to find that to be extremely congested for the next while. All along 10th West between US 89/91 and about 200 South there are a lot of little things going on that will hamper people’s travel.”Saunders says the public should stay away from newly-paved concrete until it is fully cured so the work won’t have to be done over again. If people write names or leave hand prints in the concrete, sidewalks and roads will be torn up and redone at the taxpayer’s expense. He has some advice for motorists in the construction areas. “If you have business on Tenth West,” Saunders said, “by all means go there, otherwise it’s best to stay away.”
