Not only is Friday a big day for Logan City with its big Freedom Fire Independence Day celebration in Romney Stadium, it is also a big day for city government. July 1-15 is the filing period for candidates running for Logan Municipal Council and three council seats are up for grabs. The terms of Herm Olsen, Laraine Swenson and Jay Monson are all expiring. On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Wednesday, Mayor Randy Watts encouraged public service-minded residents to strongly consider filing for office. The one word he says best describes the experience is, “rewarding.””I’ve always said that I am proud to be the mayor of Logan and I have enjoyed serving the city and the council members are the same way,” Watts said. “You look at their private lives and all they contribute and they give the portion of their time to the council. “It isn’t the monetary (reasons). I know they look in the mirror and say, ‘ya know it’s a little bit that I can give back to the city to help make the city strong now and even strong in the future.'”Watts says Logan City residents can file in the office of City Recorder Teresa Harris each weekday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone with questions should call her office at 716-9002.
