Cache County Search and Rescue responded to a serious snowmobiling accident at Tony Grove Saturday afternoon when 30-year-old Layton resident Burke McMillen crashed into a pine tree. According to Cache County Sherriff Lt. Chad Jensen, McMillen rode his snowmobile off of a 40-foot embankment before losing control and hitting the tree. He was treated at the Logan Regional Hospital for two compound fractures in his right leg. Despite the warming weather, Search and Rescue responses for such snow sport emergencies are still happening. Two weeks ago Search and Rescue was at the scene of another injury accident, this time involving a female passenger who was thrown off a snowmobile. The group is prepared for future incidents.”As long as there is enough snow, people who enjoy snowmobiling will keep going,” says Lt. Jensen.Because of Tony Grove’s above-average snow pack – currently estimated at six to seven feet still on the ground – Lt. Jensen predicts enthusiasts will continue to flock to the popular snowmobiling spot for at least another month.
