Health Department urging parents to remind children that cars are not toys

Fortunately a five year old child found locked in the trunk of a car in North Logan last Sunday is recovering. Farrin Wiese of the Bear River Health Department says the incident should be a grim reminder to parents that cars are not toys. “Always keep a vehicle locked when it’s not in use and the keys out of reach of children,” Wiese advises. “Kids are curious. They’re searching through things and if they see the keys and if they want to get them they’re going to find them. “It’s best to keep keys out of reach, the vehicles locked and teach kids that vehicles aren’t to be played around with, that there are a lot of risks that can cause accident and injury.” Wiese had other tips regarding kids and vehicles on KVNU’s Crosstalk show Wednesday. Among them: don’t let children play around cars, don’t leave your kids alone in a car and always make sure you are using child restraints.
