Presidential honors handed out to Logan teacher, student

A Logan High School student and a teacher at Edith Bowen Laboratory School have received Presidential honors. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Logan High senior Peter O. Daniels is among 14 U.S. Presidential Scholars named for the 2010-2011 school year and Linda L’Ai won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. The Presidential Scholars were chosen for demonstrating academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service and for making contributions to their schools and communities. Daniels will be honored in Washington, D.C. in June and has invited DeAnna Stallings, of Logan, to attend the ceremony as his most inspiring teacher.L’Ai is a fourth-grade teacher at Edith Bowen at Utah State University. She has been a teacher for 35 years, 21 at Edith Bowen. Besides teaching fourth-grade, L’Ai mentors pre-service teachers at the charter school. L’Ai developed a family math literacy program and wrote a Light the Math Within curriculum connecting mathematics and sports for the Utah Olympic Winter Games.
