KVNU For the People talk show host Jason Williams was in Washington, DC Sunday night when President Barack Obama announced that U.S. forces had killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. Williams was there attending a meeting being held in connection with his role as a member of the state’s GRAMA bill committee. “A huge crowd of people that have come out of their homes and walked down to the White House,” Williams said of the spontaneous celebration in the nation’s capitol. “A lot of cheering and a lot of chanting. It’s really an upbeat, very excited crowd.” Williams described the crowd as breaking into song, people climbing trees and statues to be closer together, and generally reveling in the news of bin Laden’s demise. The death of bin Laden comes nine years, seven months and 20 days after the September 11, 2001 attacks the al-Qaeda leader masterminded.
